Terms of Service

Effective July 29, 2026 · Threadmark, LLC

These Terms govern your access to and use of Threadmark, a genealogical research-standards checker operated by Threadmark, LLC (“Threadmark,” “we,” “us”). By using any part of the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

What Threadmark is — and what it is not

Threadmark reads a copy of a GEDCOM family tree file you export, checks the conclusions in it against five research standards, and reports what it finds. It runs a deterministic rules engine: the same file always produces the same score.

Threadmark verifies. It does not treat. It cannot connect to Ancestry, FamilySearch, or any other platform, and it cannot change, fix, merge, or clean anything in your tree. Every change remains your decision, made in whichever software you already use.

Optional AI features — the Research Roadmap and the Conflict Resolver — offer suggestions about what to look at next. They are not part of Free; you reach them with an active Project Scan, or through any other access we grant your account directly. They are additive and never change your score.

Pricing

There are two tiers:

  • Free — $0. The complete analysis: the full check against all five standards, your real score, every issue found with no cap, a prioritised Fix Pack worklist, PDF, Word and Markdown reports, and unlimited re-scans with score comparison kept in the browser you scanned from. No account and no card required.
  • Project Scan$19, a one-time payment that opens a 30-day window for one project. It withholds no part of the analysis — everything listed under Free stays free. What it adds is your project kept across devices rather than in a single browser, and access to the optional AI features described above, each with its own separate allowance for the window. The current allowances are shown on the pricing page.

Project Scan cannot currently be purchased. Checkout is not live, so no payment is taken and no subscription is billed. Prices and features may change before checkout opens; the price and the refund terms in force will be shown to you at the point of purchase.

Refunds

You can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Email hello@threadmarkapp.com from the address you bought with and we will refund the amount you paid for your Project Scan in full, to the original payment method. You do not need to give a reason.

Running scans during those 14 days does not forfeit the refund. After 14 days the purchase is final. Because Project Scan is a one-time charge and not a subscription, there is nothing to cancel and nothing renews.

Your family tree stays yours

When you scan a file, it is analyzed and then discarded. We do not keep a copy of your genealogical research data, and we claim no ownership over anything you submit for analysis. The free scan requires no account.

What we do collect, who receives it, and how long it is kept are set out in the Privacy Policy.

Product updates list

Joining the updates list means you have asked us to contact you about paid features and product news. It does not create a contract for services, guarantee a launch date, or lock in pricing — and it is not a queue for the free scan, which is open to everyone with no signup.

You can leave at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing hello@threadmarkapp.com.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Threadmark for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the service
  • Upload files containing malicious code
  • Circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or usage quotas
  • Resell or redistribute access to Threadmark without our written permission

Intellectual property

The Threadmark service — including the scan engine, the rule definitions, the reports, the interface, and the underlying code — is the intellectual property of Threadmark, LLC. Nothing in these Terms grants you a license to it beyond what is necessary to use the service as described.

Your family tree data remains entirely yours.

Disclaimers

Threadmark is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy of scan results, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

Threadmark is a research tool. Its results identify potential issues; they do not constitute professional genealogical advice, and a score is not a certification. You are responsible for verifying and acting on any findings.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Threadmark, LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use the service.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the total amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms. If you have created an account, you can ask us to delete it by emailing hello@threadmarkapp.com; we will erase your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to the arbitration agreement below, any dispute not resolved in arbitration shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Arkansas, and you and Threadmark, LLC each consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

Dispute resolution, arbitration, and class-action waiver

Please read this section carefully. It requires most disputes to be resolved by individual arbitration rather than in court, and it waives your right to participate in a class action. You may opt out within 30 days.

Except for the carve-outs below, you and Threadmark, LLC agree that any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, administered under the consumer arbitration rules of a recognised arbitration provider, rather than in court. The arbitration will be held in Arkansas or, at your election, by telephone, videoconference, or on written submissions only.

Class-action waiver. You and Threadmark, LLC each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. An arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims or preside over any class or representative proceeding.

Carve-outs. Either of us may (a) bring an individual claim in small-claims court instead of arbitration, and (b) go to court to seek an injunction or other relief protecting intellectual property or preventing unauthorised access to the service. Nothing here waives any right you have under applicable consumer-protection law that cannot lawfully be waived, or prevents you from reporting a concern to a government agency.

Your 30-day right to opt out. You can reject this arbitration agreement by emailing hello@threadmarkapp.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with your name and a statement that you are opting out of arbitration. Opting out affects nothing else in these Terms, and we will not treat it as a reason to refuse or withdraw service.

If the class-action waiver above is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim — and only that claim — shall proceed in court rather than in arbitration.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page changes, and the current version is always the one published here. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the service; if you are inside the 14-day refund window on a Project Scan purchase, you can request a refund as described above.
